No More Systemic Lupus Erythematosis!

The following is an unsolicited testimony of the efficacy of the pH Miracle Lifestyle and Diet.

Dear Dr. Young, Shelley Young, and Dr. Patrick,

I wanted and needed to tell you how much of an impact the pH Miracle Diet and living an alkalarian lifestyle has had on my life.

I was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus in 1984 when I was only 15 years old. To "help" with the arthritis, high blood pressure, face rash, spleen/platelet and kidney problems doctors put me on over 25 different prescriptions of steroids, immune blockers and anti-malarial drugs. I took Prednisone for almost 15 years. I gained more and more weight and just got sicker and sicker. Sometimes the drugs gave me worse side effects than the actual problem, which lead me to take more drugs. Just some of the side-effects were weight gain, delusions, drug-induced hepatitis, depression, and sleeping pill dependency. In my short 41 year life, I've been on prescriptions for longer than I've been off them.

Last summer in mid-August (2008), I came across The pH Miracle for Weight Loss by Dr. Robert and Shelley Young, read it and started it right away. In the first week I lost 20 pounds and felt more energy already. I hit plateaus where I didn't lose weight, but I kept going back to eating alkaline foods because when I did I felt much better, had less pain and no face rash.

To date (about 7 months) I have lost 80 pounds, and my goal is 20 more. I faithfully weigh myself each morning, and also keep track of what I ate the day before. Yesterday I counted all my "alkaline" days and my "non-alkaline days" (also known as "the day I ate something(s) acidic) - and I've lost the 80 pounds in only 120 "alkaline days" - not too bad I think. But more importantly, I have been able to stop taking ALL prescriptions and I don't even need tylenol or any other pain killers for pain - because I have none! (...well, as long as I'm eating alkaline foods.... but if I eat acidic foods I start feeling it within an hour!)

This is pretty amazing to me because my rheumatologist stated that I would be on Plaquenil for the rest of my life. When I went to see her last month (she hadn't seen me since October), she was astonished with my perfect blood work and organ tests, perfect blood pressure and perfect overall health. She actually proclaimed me "A WALKING MIRACLE" ... and I said ..."'s the pH Miracle!"

I love this new alkaline world that has been opened to me - and I share it with anyone that is willing to listen.

I have a serious heart condition and my wife has a multitude of chronic illnesses. I have been at the point where I think, "I might as well drink the coffee and cream and eat the donuts because I can't afford to do the pH diet anyway. Well this little message has encouraged me to get started anyway. At least I can stop eating a lot of the bad stuff and eat as much of the good stuff as I can. Without beginning we can't accomplish anything. And I just love the quote from Goethe.

Today is step number one. No cream in my coffee. Next week. No coffee and no dairy at all. and so on. It feels quite empowering just knowing I've begun the journey. And I will keep my eyes on the prize. Excellent health.

Chocolate, Acai, Tea Leaves, Cola Nut, Cocao and Cocoa Mulch Can KILL!

If you walk on all fours and have fur or if you walk on two legs and don't have fur, two caffeine-like ingredients in chocolate, Theobromine (aka xantheose) and Methybromine can kill you and your pet animal if ingested. Not only is Theobromine and Methybromine found in chocolate, it’s also present in acai berries, tea leaves, the cola nut, cacao, and Cocoa Mulch.

Emails about Cocoa Mulch have been circulating around the Internet since 2003, and more frequently since 2007 when Calypso, a three year old Labrador, had a seizure and dropped dead on a walk after ingesting the garden mulch made from cacao bean shells. The same thing is happening to humans!

Hershey’s, the manufacturer of Cocoa Mulch, states that “50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees…98% of all dogs won’t eat it.”

Dr. Robert O. Young, Director of Research at the pH Miracle Living Center, "chocolate, acai, cola nut, cacao and cocoa are all highly acidic and their poisonous acids will kill animals quickly and humans slowly. Unfortunately many of these acidic foods are being sold as health foods for the body as antioxidants. Chocolate, acai, cola nut, cocao and cocoa are not antioxidants but highly acidic oxidants that when ingested will steal electron energy from the body and use up stored alkaline buffers. This can then lead to sickness, dis-ease and many so-called diseases in animals and humans. My best advice is to never eat these so-called foods. They are not foods and especially not health foods. They are poison to the body of all animals and humans."

Since there are many other brands of garden mulch, if you have a dog, the best choice to another brand that is free of cocoa.

Easter is a few weeks away and chocolate will grow in abundance in the form of eggs, carrots, and rabbits, so take extra care and keep these tempting treats out of the reach of your animals and especially your children!

In the worse case scenario, here is some information that will help determine what action should be taken if your dog or cat or child eats a bunny ear. The higher the cocoa content the more toxic it becomes.

• 1 ounce of Milk Chocolate is toxic per 1 pound of body weight
• 1 ounce of Semisweet Chocolate is toxic per 3 pounds of body weight
• 1 ounce of Baker’s Chocolate is toxic per 9 pounds of body weight

For example, 2 ounces of Baker’s Chocolate can put your 15 pound dog or baby at great risk, while 2 ounces of Milk Chocolate will usually cause simple digestive problems.

The clinical signs of chocolate, acai berries, tea leaves, cola nut, cocao and cocoa toxicity are:

Hyper excitability
Hyper irritability
Increased heart rate
Increased urination
Muscle tremors

"The acid sugar combined with the acids Theobromine and Methylbromine found in chocolate and cocao are a deadly combination. Why risk the health and the life of your animal or even your child. This Easter give your dog, cat or your child an Hass avocado in their Easter Basket. It is safer and a better alkalizing choice.

PS The vinegar used to color Easter Eggs is a toxic acidic chemical and should never be ingested, inhaled or come in contact with your skin without possible harmful effects.

PSS Eggs are also acidic and should never be eaten. One egg contains over 87 million pathological microforms. Eggs are not to be eaten they are to give birth to a chick.

These Are Acidic Times of Stress, Strokes, Heart Attacks and Cancer

Living in the "Acidic Lifestyles and Diet" age can definitely raise your blood pressure and set the stage for a stroke, heart attack or even cancer.

It turns out that there may be a very simple and very inexpensive way to reduce (often dramatically) your risk for a stroke, heart attack and cancer - and much more. Studies of potassium bicarbonate supplements, like pHour salts in humans report:

As we all know, the risk of many troublesome-even deadly-health problems can be reduced with an alkaline lifestyle and diet and increased with an acidic lifestyle and diet.

Our lifestyle and diet has changed radically from what our ancestors ate 1000's of years ago, and not all of these changes have been for the good. Our modern lifestyle and diets are likely to contain far less sodium, magnesium, calcium and potassium - less base forming nutrients than those enjoyed by our ancestors who lived up to 1000 years.

Fortunately, an inexpensive sodium, magnesium, calcium and potassium bicarbonate dietary supplement called pHour salts can help you to eat more like our ancestors.

One of the most important differences in our ancestors living longer was that there was far more potassium (from fruits and vegetables) and no ingestion of acid-forming foods from animal flesh.

The change to a low potassium, high acid-forming content diet has had a profound impact on many aspects of wellness and aging, including those listed above.

According to one study,1 "the ancient human potassium intake averaged 400 ± 125 mEq/d [about 15 grams per day!], which exceeds the NHANES III [Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 1988-1994] age-grouped averages (~60-85 mEq/d) [2.3-3.3 grams/d] by factors greater than 4."

This amount also "exceeds the 120 mEq/d set for adequate intake by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine in 2004 and 2006 and the same value, 120 mEq/d recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2005 [4.7 grams per day]."1

Note that the potassium content of the average American adult diet is only 50% to 70% of the amount recommended. This means that most American diets are officially deficient in alkaline mineral salts, especially potassium. Worse yet, the official RDA is too low.

The Institute of Medicine also reported that ". . . Fruits and vegetables, particularly leafy greens, vine fruit [aka, vegetable fruit, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, and pumpkin] and root vegetables, are good sources of potassium and bicarbonate precursors. Although meat, milk and cereal products contain potassium, they do not contain enough bicarbonate precursors to balance their acid-forming precursors, such as sulfur-containing amino acids."

The results of a high net-acid producing diet include1 increased urinary calcium excretion, increased bone resorption markers (indicative of bone loss), and increased urinary nitrogen excretion (negative nitrogen balance as occurs with loss of lean body mass).

Reduction of Stroke Risk by Potassium

What is worse then a heart attack? A stroke!

The British Medical Journal on Feb. 20th, 2009 stated, "Making simple changes to your lifestyle could dramatically decrease your risk of having a stroke, one of the leading causes of death and illness across the world." (2)

British researchers found people who lead unhealthy lifestyles are more than twice as likely to suffer a stroke than those who eat and drink sensibly, do not smoke and exercise regularly.

More than 20,000 men and women between the ages of 40 and 79 completed detailed health and lifestyle questionnaires and underwent a health examination by trained nurses. Participants scored one point for each of four healthy behaviors: not currently smoking, not physically inactive, moderate alcohol intake and blood vitamin C levels that indicated consuming at least five servings of fruits or vegetables a day (emphasis added).

Participants could have a score between zero and four, with a higher score indicating more protective behavior. They were then followed for an average of 11.5 years, and strokes were recorded using death certificates and hospital discharge data.

After adjusting for other factors that could have affected the results, the researchers said the risk of stroke was 2.3 times greater in those with a score of zero compared to those with a score of four. They also discovered that the risk of stroke increased with every point decrease in health behavior score. In other words, those with a score of two were 1.5 times more likely to have a stroke than those with a score of four.

The researchers said they hope their results will show people that small differences in lifestyle may have substantial potential impacts on stroke risk.

One paper reported on the potassium dietary intake (estimated from a 24 hour recall of dietary foods) versus occurrence of stroke during a 12-year follow-up of 356 men and 503 women who were 50 to 79 years old at baseline and without pre-existing history of heart attack, heart failure, or stroke. (3)

The results showed that the relative risks of stroke-associated mortality in the lowest tertile (third) of potassium intake, as compared with that in the top two tertiles combined, were 2.6 (p=0.16) in men and 4.8 (p=0.01) in women. The effect was partially independent of known cardiovascular risk factors, such as age, sex, blood pressure, blood cholesterol levels, obesity, fasting blood glucose levels, and cigarette smoking.

Another study(4) of 5,600 men and women older than 65 years and who were free of strokes, followed for 4 to 8 years, reported that a lower serum potassium level was associated with an increased relative risk of stroke (RR:1.5, p<0.005); a lower serum potassium level in those taking diuretics (presumably for high blood pressure) was associated with an even greater increased risk of stroke (RR:2.5, p<0.0001).

In fact, "for each SD [standard deviation] decrease in serum potassium in a diuretic user, there was a 38% increase in the RR (relative risk] for stroke. For each SD decrease in dietary potassium in a nondiuretic user, there was an 18% increase in the RR for stroke." (4)

The pH Miracle alkaline diet favors "Lean Tissue Mass" in Older Adult Humans

Chronic metabolic acidosis can result from eating a diet whose metabolism yields acids (such as uric, phosphoric, nitric and sulfuric acid) in excess of bases (e.g., bicarbonate).

In fact, this type of diet is typically consumed by populations of industrially developed (Westernized) countries, where animal foods rich in acid (enzymes) precursors are consumed disproportionally to that of plant foods rich in base precursors. (6)

One result of chronic metabolic acidosis is an acceleration in the protein degradation of skeletal muscle; moreover, diet-dependent metabolic acidosis tends to increase in severity with age. (6)

One recent study (7) reported that increased potassium urinary excretion (derived from alkaline potassium salts found in dietary fruits and vegetables) was associated with increased lean body mass in 384 men and women 65 or older who participated in a calcium and vitamin D versus placebo study of osteoporosis.

The authors concluded that ". . . subjects with a potassium intake of 134 mmol/d [5.2 grams/d] can expect to have 1.64 kg [3.6 lbs] more lean tissue mass than subjects with half that potassium intake." (7)

In a separate paper,(7) researchers studying the effect of an oral potassium bicarbonate supplement (60-120 mmol/day for 18 days) in 14 healthy postmenopausal women found that the supplements reduced urinary nitrogen excretion, an indicator of preserved lean body mass.

The authors concluded that "[t]he magnitude of the KHCO3 [potassium bicarbonate]-induced nitrogen sparing effect is potentially sufficient to both prevent continuing age-related loss of muscle mass and restore previously accrued deficits."

The amount of potassium bicarbonate supplement used in this study was 6 to 12 grams per day, which supplied 2.34 to 4.68 grams of potassium per day.

Decreased Calcium Excretion Helps Protect Bones

In another paper, (8) the effect of potassium bicarbonate on calcium excretion in postmenopausal women was reported.

The authors note that potassium bicarbonate has been shown to potently reduce urine calcium excretion in adult humans, including patients with hypertension or calcium urolithiasis, and postmenopausal women.

As the authors note, "[t]he [Western] diet-induced low-grade metabolic acidosis that persists further contributes to the external losses of calcium by direct impairment of renal [kidney] calcium reabsorptive efficiency, a characteristic of metabolic acidosis."

They, therefore, studied the effect of 30, 60, or 90 mmol/d potassium bicarbonate treatment in 170 postmenopausal women for up to 36 months. (3, 6, or 9 grams per day of potassium bicarbonate supplying 1.17, 2.34, or 3.51 grams per day of potassium, respectively.)

All doses of potassium bicarbonate reduced urinary calcium excretion throughout the study. Interestingly, in the 28% of the subjects that had high baseline urinary calcium excretion, 60 mmol/day of potassium bicarbonate decreased the urinary calcium excretion by an amount that, over a 36 month period, would accumulate up to 55,845 mg of calcium or nearly 5% of bone calcium content.(8)

Potassium is Vasoactive, Increasing Blood Flow, Helping Regulate Blood Pressure

It has been reported that potassium depletion in normal humans increases blood pressure, as well as reducing the ability to deal with an acute sodium load and sodium retention. (9)

In borderline hypertensives (140/90), "a low-potassium diet (16 mmol/day) for 10 days increases systolic and diastolic pressures by 7 and 6 mmHg, respectively, relative to 10 days on a high-potassium diet (96 mmol/day)."8 Indeed, potassium supplementation lowers blood pressure in established hypertension.

"Potassium is vasoactive; when infused into the arterial supply of a vascular bed, blood flow increases." (9) Potassium release is regulated by the Na+-K+-ATPase [sodium-potassium-ATPase) enzyme in the plasma membrane.

"Potassium increases the uptake of norepinephrine [aka noradrenaline] into the sympathetic nerve terminals, leaving less in the [synaptic] cleft. This also promotes relaxation of the vascular smooth muscle and increases blood flow." In this way, potassium acts importantly to regulate the excitatory effects of norepinephrine.

In one study,(10) reduced dietary potassium reversibly enhanced vasopressor (vascular contraction, which induces increased blood pressure) response to stress in African Americans. As noted in the paper, the blood pressure of normotensive blacks is much more likely to be salt sensitive than that of normotensive whites:

"In normotensive [but salt sensitive] blacks but not whites [normotensive and not salt sensitive], a marginally reduced dietary intake of potassium reversibly enhances adrenergically mediated vasopressor responsiveness to stress."

How to Take Mineral Salts Including Potassium Bicarbonate

You can easily eat more like Adam and Eve by taking 1 scoop (approximately 1500 mg potassium) or two to three capsules, each capsule containing 1.35 grams of potassium bicarbonate (13.5 meq or 527 mg potassium) three to four times per day.

If you are an adult eating a typical American diet, you will need approximately 3 to 4 scoops or 12 capsules per day of pHour salts, containing potassium bicarbonate to increase your total potassium intake for increased alkalinity. Your increased alkalinity can be measured by peeing on a strip of pHydrion paper. The pH of your urine should be at least 7.2 for ideal health and energy. I suggest starting with one scoop or one capsule per day, and in a week work up to 3 to 4 scoops or 12 capsules per day.

IMPORTANT: Take the capsule(s) by themselves on an empty stomach and wash them down with at least a full glass (8-10 oz) of warm electron-rich alkaline body temperature water. (If you take it with food, the increased alkalinity will interact with the stomach acid and neutralize the toxic hydrochloric acid. This is a good thing but may result in some burping.)

Our intestines and brains are designed to handle situations of emergency stress with a "fight or flight" mechanism that pumps out lots of electrons (with an acidic waste product of noradrenaline - the brain's version of adrenaline which), so you have the energy and alertness to either spear the saber-tooth tiger or run up a tree away from it.

Continuous stress is having the flight or flight system always on, continually pumping out excess electrons and increased acidic noradrenaline, leading to hypertension and possible stroke. Potassium, in sufficient amounts, will pump the acidic waste product of noradrenaline back into the vesicles where it can be eliminated through urination.

Interestingly, the more stress you are under, the more sensitive you tend to be to potassium's blood pressure-lowering effects. And aren't we all under continual acidic stress these days?

Vitamin D Helps To Prevent Cancerous Breasts and Tumor Formation

A connection between vitamin D level and the risk
of developing cancerous breasts has been implicated
for a long time, but its clinical relevance had not
yet been proven. Sascha Abbas and colleagues from
the working group headed by Dr. Jenny Chang-Claude
at the German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches
Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ), collaborating
with researchers of the University Hospitals
in Hamburg-Eppendorf, have now obtained clear

While previous studies had concentrated chiefly
on nutritional vitamin D, the researchers have
now investigated the complete vitamin D status.
To this end, they studied 25-hydroxyvitamin D
(25(OH)D) as a marker for both endogenous
vitamin D and vitamin D from food intake.

The result of the study involving 1,394 cancerous
breast patients and an equal number of healthy
women after menopause was surprisingly clear:

Women with a very low blood level of 25(OH)D have
a considerably increased risk for cancerous breasts.
The effect was found to be strongest in women who
were not taking acidic cancerous causing hormones
for relief of menopausal symptoms. However, the
authors note that, in this retrospective study,
diagnosis-related factors such as chemotherapy or
lack of sunlight after prolonged hospital stays
might have contributed to low vitamin levels of
breast cancer patients.

In addition, the investigators focused on the
vitamin D receptor. The gene of this receptor is
found in several variants known as polymorphisms.
The research team of the DKFZ and Eppendorf
Hospitals investigated the effect of four of
these polymorphisms on the risk of developing
cancerous breasts. They found out that carriers
of the Taql polymorphism have a slightly increased
risk of cancerous acidic tumors that carry receptors
for the female acidic sex hormone estrogen on their
surface. No effects on the overall breast cancer
risk were found. A possible explanation offered
by the authors is that vitamin D can exert its
cancerous-preventing effect by counteracting the
growth-promoting effect of the acidic estrogens.

Besides its cancerous-preventing influence with
effects on cell growth, cell differentiation and
programmed cell death (apoptosis), vitamin D
regulates, above all, the calcium metabolism in
our body. Foods that are particularly rich in
vitamin D include cod liver oil, green fruits

The Importance of Vitamin D3 In The Prevention and Healing of Bone Fractures

Oral vitamin D supplements at a dose of at least 400 international units per day and ideally 2000 I.U.'s are associated with a reduced risk of bone fractures in older adults, according to results of a meta-analysis published in the March 23 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

"The anti-fracture benefits of vitamin D have been questioned by several recent trials, leading to uncertainty among patients and physicians regarding recommendations for vitamin D supplementation," the authors write as background information in the article. "Factors that may obscure a benefit of vitamin D are low adherence to treatment, low dose of vitamin D or the use of less potent ergocalciferol (vitamin D2)."

Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari, Dr.P.H., of the University of Zurich, University Hospital, Zurich, Switzerland, and colleagues performed a meta-analysis on 12 previously published clinical trials of oral vitamin D supplements among adults age 65 or older. These double-blind randomized controlled trials involved 42,279 participants (average age 78) and looked at non-vertebral (non-spinal) fractures, including eight trials of 40,886 participants specifically studying hip fractures.

When the results of the trials were pooled, vitamin D supplements decreased the risk of non-vertebral fractures by 14 percent and of hip fractures by 9 percent. The authors then pooled the results of only the nine trials in which participants received doses of more than 400 international units per day. At this dosage, vitamin D supplements reduced non-vertebral fractures by 20 percent and hip fractures by 18 percent. Doses of 400 international units per day or lower did not reduce the risk of either fracture type. A greater reduction in risk was also seen among trial participants whose blood levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (a commonly used measure of blood vitamin D levels) achieved a greater increase.

Among individuals taking high doses of vitamin D, additional calcium did not appear to have any further protective effect against fractures. "Physiologically, the calcium-sparing effect of vitamin D may explain why we did not see an additional benefit of calcium supplementation at a higher dose of vitamin D," the authors write.

"The greater fracture reduction with a higher received dose or higher achieved 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels for both any non-vertebral fractures and hip fractures suggests that higher doses of vitamin D should be explored in future research to optimize anti-fracture efficacy," they conclude. "Also, it is possible that greater benefits may be achieved with earlier initiation of vitamin D supplementation and longer duration of use. Our results do not support use of low-dose vitamin D with or without calcium in the prevention of fractures among older individuals."

According to Dr. Robert O. Omega 3 Oils May Prevent Prostate Cancer

Omega-3 oils, particularly those found in dark fish are associated with protection against an aggressive cancerous prostate, a case-control study showed.

Men who consumed the greatest amount of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids had a 63% reduced risk of advanced prostate cancer compared with those who ate the least (OR 0.37, 95% CI 0.25 to 0.54), John Witte, Ph.D., of the University of California San Francisco, and colleagues reported in Clinical Cancer Research.

The relationship was strengthened in men who had a specific variation on the COX-2 gene: those with the genetic variation and low omega-3 consumption had a substantially increased risk of aggressive cancer (OR 5.49, 95% CI 1.80 to 16.7).

Action Points

* Explain to interested patients that this study found that men who ate the most dark fish or took supplemental fish oil were the least likely to develop advanced prostate cancer, and that the relationship was affected by a genetic variation.

* Point out that this study cannot determine causality even though Dr. Robert O. Young suggests that all cancerous conditions are caused by lifestyle, diet and metabolic acids.

"Previous research has shown protection against prostate cancer, but this is one of the first studies to show protection against advanced prostate cancer and interaction with COX-2," Dr. Witte said.

"Consuming omega-3 oils from fish, hemp seed and flax seed may reduce inflammation, thereby decreasing the risk of prostate cancer development and progression," states Dr. Young.

Most studies looking at the association have found a reduced risk of prostate cancer with greater dietary intake, and there is some evidence that the relationship is modified by COX-2, which is involved in the metabolism of Omega 3 oils, they said.

To explore the association with aggressive disease, the researchers recruited 466 men diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which was defined as a Gleason score of 7 or higher, a tumor-node-metastasis stage of T2c or higher, or a prostate-specific antigen level greater than 10 ng/mL.

As controls, they enrolled 478 men who were free from cancer.

Increasing consumption of any oils(fish oil, flax oil or hemp oil) and total long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated oils -- assessed using a food frequency questionnaire -- was associated with a reduced risk of aggressive prostate cancer (P≤0.0001 for trend).

Specifically, men who ate boiled or baked dark fish (such as salmon, mackerel, and bluefish) one to three times a month had a 36% reduced risk of aggressive disease compared with those who never ate it (OR 0.64, 95% CI 0.48 to 0.86).

Men who ate dark fish at least once a week had an even greater reduction in risk (OR 0.43, 95% CI 0.29 to 0.63).

Of nine single nucleotide pleomorphisms on COX-2 that the researchers evaluated for an effect on the association, only one -- rs4648310 -- had a significant modifying effect (P=0.02).

Among men with the variation, those with low intake of omega-3 oils had a greater risk of aggressive prostate cancer and those with high intake had a reduced risk.

"Our findings . . . suggest that, although carriers of the variant pleomorphism had an overall increased risk of aggressive prostate cancer, this deleterious effect was found only in men consuming low levels of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids," the researchers said.

They said this supports "the hypothesis that long-chain omega-3 fatty acids may impact prostate inflammation and carcinogenesis through the COX-2 enzymatic pathway."

However, they acknowledged, "more clinical and biological studies are needed to decipher how dietary long-chain omega-3 fatty acids and other factors involved with inflammation, such as COX-2 genotypes, affect aggressive prostate cancer."

Dr. Young suggests, "long-chain polyunsaturated omega-3 oils have the ability to chelate or buffer environmental, dietary and/or metabolic acids due to their unsaturation of hydrogen ions. This allows these oils to uptake toxic acidic waste products along their carbon chain, preventing a cancerous condition that would otherwise cause the breakdown of body cells leading to all cancerous conditions."

The study was limited, they said, by a small sample size for detecting gene-diet interactions and possible recall bias. In addition they noted the possibility of prognostic selection bias and confounding "because a majority of our cases were diagnosed by screening and screening, a health-conscious behavior, may be associated with the consumption of a healthier diet, fish, and long chain fatty acids."

Preventing Breast Cancer With Soy Isoflavones

Women who regularly ate soy as children may have a lower risk of developing cancerous breasts, a study of Asian- American women suggests.

Researchers found that among nearly 1,600 Asian Americans with or without breast cancer, higher soy intake throughout life was associated with a lower risk of this so-called disease. But the strongest protective effect was seen with childhood soy intake.

Women who'd eaten soy regularly as children -- roughly once a week or more -- were about 60 percent less likely to develop cancerous breasts than women with lower soy intakes in childhood.

Regular soy consumption in adulthood, meanwhile, was linked to a 25-percent reduction in cancerous breast tissue risk.

The findings, reported in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, echo those from earlier studies suggesting that soy helps protect against cancerous breasts.

But they further suggest that childhood soy consumption may be especially important.

It's not clear why diets high in soy have been linked to a lower cancerous breast tissue risk. In this study, Ziegler's team tried to account for the effects of overall lifestyle by asking the women questions on how "Western" or "Eastern" their lives had been growing up and in adulthood.

Even with those factors considered, childhood soy intake was still linked to lower cancerous breast tissue risk, while the connection between adulthood intake and breast cancer risk weakened somewhat.

Some researchers suspect that estrogen-like soy compounds called isoflavones may offer some breast cancer protection.

"Soy isoflavones block the acidic action of estrogen that causes the biological transformation or destruction of healthy body cells, including breast cells. Also, soy isoflavones reduce inflammation in the body by buffering metabolic and dietary acids," states Dr. Robert O. Young, a research scientist at the pH Miracle Living Center, in Valley Center, California.

Exposure to soy isoflavones early in life may be especially important in breast cancer risk, Ziegler and her colleagues speculate. Animal research, they note, has shown that soy may promote earlier maturation of breast tissue and greater resistance of the tissue to acidic cancerous causing substances.

According to Dr. Young, "Acids from diet, from metabolism and especially from endocrine activity, can be deposited in the breast tissue causing inflammation and potentially leading to cancerous breast tissue. Soy isoflavones can play a key role in chemically neutralizing these acids and therefore may help to prevent a cancerous condition of the breast tissue."

Dr. Robert O. Youngs' Cancer Research Validated by British Scientific Study

"A new MRI technique using sodium bicarbonate could
detect a cancerous condition before tumor formation
or tissue degeneration. This experimental alkalizing
test measures tissue acidity and could gauge if
medical or natural treatments are actually working,"
according to Dr. Robert O. Young, a research scientist
at the pH Miracle Living Center.

A new imaging technique that relies on naturally
occurring baking soda or sodium bicarbonate
in the body could help pinpoint a cancerous condition
earlier and quickly gauge if treatments are working,
British researchers said on Wednesday.

The non-invasive method uses magnetic resonance
imaging to measure changes in alkaline pH -- or acidity --
in tissue that is often the hallmark of a cancerous
condition and other conditions such as heart dis-ease
and strokes, said Kevin Brindle of the University of
Cambridge, who led the study.

Currently there are no safe ways to measure tissue pH
levels in humans but doing so is important because
tumors, for example, are far more acidic than surrounding

According to Dr. Young, "the urine pH is a simple and
an inexpensive way to determine the acid/alkaline pH
of the body tissues. When the morning urine pH is
below 7.2 this indicates tissue acidosis and a
potential for a cancerous condition in the body

"You are imaging not just tissue structure but tissue
function," said Brindle, whose study is published in
the journal Nature. "We wanted to measure tissue pH,
which is a surrogate for dis-ease."

"Disease is the expression of an over-acidic body."

The researchers injected mice with a tagged form of
sodium bicarbonate -- an alkali more commonly seen in
baking soda -- that occurs naturally in the body and
balances acidity of the body, Brindle said.

They used MRI to see how much of the tagged sodium
bicarbonate was converted into carbon dioxide within
the tumor. In more acidic tumors, more bicarbonate
is converted into carbon dioxide.

"The body tissues use sodium bicarbonate as a primary
buffer to maintain the natural alkaline design of the
tissues and to prevent degeneration of that specific
tissue," states Dr. Young.

The researchers measured pH levels using an emerging
technique called dynamic nuclear polarization that
boosts MRI sensitivity more than 10,000 times.

The method developed by GE's GE Healthcare unit
involves cooling down molecules to near absolute zero
and then warming them up quickly -- a process that
keeps them polarized and easier to detect as an

"MRI can pick up on the abnormal acidic pH levels found
in cancerous tissues and it is possible that this could
be used to pinpoint where the disease is present and
when it is responding to treatment," Brindle said.

The next step is testing the technique in humans in
early stage clinical trials expected to start in 2009,
he added in a telephone interview.

I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer two days before my fiftieth birthday. When I heard the diagnosis I was stunned. I was not what I thought a cancer victim looked like. I mean, people who came down with cancer smoked cigarettes, drank hard liquor, ate lots of meat, worked around asbestos or radiation, none of which I did.

I will admit that during the earlier part of my life I had smoked cigarettes, I had drunk hard liquor, and I had tried an all protein diet for about two weeks until my heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest. I am sure that at some time I had been around asbestos and I had even suffered through a couple of mammograms which added radiation to my body. But at the time, I was living what I thought was a fairly healthy life.

I was nearing fifty, so I figured that it was normal for my hair to start thinning a bit. My skin was becoming drier, but that’s, of course, why moisturizers are made. I didn’t sleep much at night (I was proud of my workaholic tendencies), and those hot flashes were getting hotter and more frequent throughout the day and night. But I was almost fifty. That’s normal, right?

A year prior to my diagnosis I had felt a lump in my breast after a morning shower. I chalked it up to too much caffeine and gave up the coffee for about two weeks and the lump went away. That lump came back a couple more times during the year and disappeared after I changed something I was drinking or eating.

But around Thanksgiving 2006, the lump came back and I didn’t change anything about what I was doing during the holidays. I told myself that I would tackle it after Christmas. The holidays came and went but the lump stayed. When January rolled around, I got so busy that I told myself that I would deal with it later.

In mid January I decided that I needed to find out what it was and I went to a doctor friend of mine. She took a look at it and scheduled me for a mammogram the following week. I figured they would just do the mammogram and realize that it was just a cyst and tell me not to worry about it.

The first set of mammograms didn’t come out clear enough and they had to run a second set the same day. By the time I was finished with the mammograms, the lump was red and hot and painful. I won’t bore you with the details that followed.

I will just jump to the day two week after my mammogram when another doctor sat down to tell me that all the tests that they had run confirmed that I, in fact, had cancer and it was a stage three. He wanted to schedule me for surgery immediately. He handed me the cards of a couple of surgeons, an oncologist and a cosmetic reconstructive surgeon. He told me to contact all of these people and keep in touch with him. I remember nodding my head okay, walking out of his office and starting my drive home.

The minute I turned the ignition key on in my truck, I started down a path that would change my life forever. Somewhere inside me I knew that I had brought this ‘cancer’ on myself. I had always believed that the human body was designed to heal itself if given the right tools. I just hadn’t given it the right tools. I had to find what the right tools were. My path to self healing landed me on the Oprah Winfrey show in a short time in March of 2007. The Oprah show was a springboard for me and helped me reach doctors and researchers that I may not have been able to reach on my own.

I worked with massage therapists, reflexologists, nutritionists and energy healers. I ordered crystals to take away negative energy and balance my chakras. I learned to reinvent myself. During all this, I continued to get thermoscans that measured the heat in my body. I was seeing a slight decrease in heat (my research had taught me that cancer emits heat), but I still wasn’t where I wanted to be. I talked to alternative researchers from all over the world regarding cancer. Nothing opens the door faster than “I was on the Oprah Show”. There was only one person out of the 30 or more that I called who did not take or return my call. They all shared their findings with me and wished me luck.

Occasionally I would talk to a doctor who expressed concern about my decision and my delay in getting western medical treatment. I would always ask them one question, “what caused my cancer?” Not one doctor could tell me. My logic told me that if they didn’t know what caused it, how could they know the best way to treat it or how to make sure that it would never come back.

The clock was ticking; it was now mid July and I knew I was getting somewhere, but I wasn’t there yet. Each day I continued searching for new information.

One day I stumbled across a website that talked about alkaline versus acid. On the website it talked about a Dr. Robert O. Young, a nutritional microbiologist in California. I emailed his office about where I was and what I was looking for and received an email back from Dr. Young’s assistant, Dr. Patrick Sobota. Within hours we were speaking over the phone. Within 24 hours, I was speaking to Dr. Young. After 45 minutes on the phone with him I knew I had found the answers and the protocol that I was looking for.

How did I know that this was my answer? Dr. Young was able to answer my questions about, “what causes cancer.”

I followed Dr. Young’s protocol for three months. I am still on this journey to continue my healing. I have permanently changed my understanding of food and nutrition and my lifestyle. I am healthy, happy and have never felt better in my life. I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer on February 5, 2007 and was pronounced cancer free November 4th, 2007. Nine months.

Why is this number of nine months so significant? I have a son. My body was able to create another human being in nine months. Why not perfect my blood with healthy nutrition and create a new me in nine month’s time?

In order to heal yourself from any disease, you must think differently and try to understand the true nature of your body and your responsibility to it. I believe that I am witness to the remarkable healing power of the human body and the ability of the body to heal itself if given the right tools. Doctor Young and his pH Miracle Program were the tools I needed to bring my body back into its natural healthy state.

Healthy Alkaline Blood Creates A Healthy Body

Just as our body temperature must be maintained at 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, your blood is ideally maintained at 7.365 pH—very mildly basic. (A mainstream doctor would accept up to 7.4, but that’s problematic) Different areas of the body have different specific pH requirements, but the blood needs to stay within a very tight range. It is a reliable indicator of internal conditions in general. Maintaining the alkaline pH of the body’s fluids, including blood, urine and saliva (and even, though you don’t generally measure these, tears and sweat) is critical for good health. Prime among these is the blood.

Physiological so-called disease and dis-ease are almost always the result of too much acid stressing the body’s pH balance, to the point where it provokes the body into the symptoms that we increasingly call “disease.” Disease can also be simply the toxic effects of an external source, but that is much more rare such as exposure to air pollution from smoke, cars or planes. Heaven help us if we happen to live on top of an old toxic dump site or too near to a nuclear plant. Symptoms can be the expression of that stress, but they can also be a sign of the body’s effort to balance it. Depending on the level and extent of the stress, symptoms may or may not be obvious or even noticeable. The kicker is that excess acid is something we do to ourselves, thanks to the choices we make. The good news, then, is that once we recognize that fact, we can make different choices. But we must be ready to take responsibility for our acidic lifestyle and dietary choices before we’ll be able to make the healthy changes.

All of the body’s regulatory mechanisms (including breathing, circulation, digestion, and glandular function) work to balance the delicate internal acid/base balance. Our bodies cannot tolerate extended acid imbalances. Acidity reveals itself in our bodies in seven stages:

1) loss of energy;
2) sensitivity and irritation (as in IBS);
3) mucus and congestion;
4) inflammation;
5) hardening of soft tissue (“induration,” like lupus, lyme, fibromyalgia, hardening of the arteries, plaque);
6) ulceration; and, finally,
7) degeneration (cancer, heart disease, stroke, AIDS, ALS, MS, diabetes).

In the early stages of the imbalance, the symptoms may not be very intense and include such things as skin eruptions, headaches, allergies, colds and flu, and sinus problems. As things get further out of whack, more serious situations arise. Weakened organs and systems start to give way, resulting in dysfunctional thyroid glands, adrenals, liver, and so on. If tissue pH deviates too far to the acid side, oxygen levels decrease and cellular metabolism will stop. In other words, cells die. You die.

So a declining pH just cannot be allowed. To prevent it, when faced with a lot of incoming acid from diet and poor lifestyle choice, the blood begins to pull alkaline minerals out of our tissues to compensate. (In other words, we begin to cannibalize ourselves.) There is a family of base minerals particularly suited to neutralizing, or detoxifying, strong acids, including sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. When these minerals react with acids, they create much less detrimental substances, which then are eliminated by the body.

Now, a healthy body maintains a reserve supply of these alkaline minerals to meet emergency demands. But if there are insufficient amounts in the diet or in the reserves, they are recruited elsewhere, and may be leached from the blood (as with sodium or potassium) or bone and cartilage as with calcium or muscle as with magnesium — where they are, of course, needed. This can easily lead to deficiencies — and the many and varied symptoms that come with them.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. If the acid overload gets too great for the blood to balance, excess acid is dumped into the tissues for storage. Then the lymphatic (immune) system must neutralize what it can — and try to get rid of everything else. Unfortunately, “getting rid of” acid from the tissues turns out to mean dumping it right back into the blood, creating a vicious cycle of drawing out still more basic minerals away from their ordinary functions and stressing the liver and kidneys besides. Furthermore, if the lymphatic system is overloaded, or its vessels not functioning properly (a condition often caused by lack of exercise), acid builds up in the connective tissues.
This imbalance in the blood and tissue pH leads to irritation and inflammation and sets the stage for sickness and dis-ease. Acute or recurrent illnesses result from either the body trying to mobilize mineral reserves to prevent cellular breakdown or emergency attempts to detoxify the body. For example, the body may throw off acids through the skin, producing symptoms such as eczema, acne, boils, headaches, muscle cramps, soreness, swelling, irritation, inflammation, and general aches and pains. Chronic symptoms show up when all possibilities of neutralizing or eliminating acids have been exhausted.

When acid wastes build up in the body and enter the bloodstream, the circulatory system will try to get rid of them in gas or liquid form, through the lungs or the kidneys. If there is too much waste to handle, they are deposited in various organ systems, including the heart, pancreas, liver, and colon, or stored in fatty tissue, including the breasts, hips, thighs, belly—and brain. We know these “deposits” by names such as polyps, fluids, cysts, acid crystals, tumors, warts, bumps, growths, masses, blemishes, moles, blisters, sacs and so on.

This process of acid waste breakdown and disposal could also be called “the aging process.” Ultimately, it will lead (in the seventh of the seven stages of acidity) to degenerative disease, including cancers.

And all this caused by dietary and metabolic acid!

On the other hand, healthy alkaline blood and tissues create a healthy body.

Symptoms Confused As So-Called Disease

Unfortunately, Pasteur’s confusion of disease with its symptoms, has come down through the generations as scientific law. To this day, conventional medicine operates under this central misconception and delusion, often identifying a pattern of symptoms and labeling it a so-called disease, without any consideration of the underlying cause of the symptoms. And if the underlying cause isn’t considered, it can’t be addressed.

Symptoms may be masked with drugs, but that won’t eradicate them.

The truth is symptoms are just indications that you are over acid. Symptoms are caused by acidic food and lifestyle choices. Dis-ease or so-called disease is a general, underlying condition of acidity. If germs are involved, they are themselves just symptoms of that underlying acidic condition. Remember that germs come from within our cells, and that germs coming in from outside the body can only contribute to a state of imbalance and stimulate secondary symptoms. What most people call dis-ease or so-called disease is really just a collection of these secondary symptoms. Germs are really just the expression of the underlying so-called disease condition (over-acidity and then evolutionary microform overgrowth). In the same way it is a bullet that does the damage, not the smoke from a fired gun, it is the acid that kills, not the associated germs.

Over the last century or so, mainstream science has decided the precise causes of some so-called diseases. But many serious ones still seem to be something of a mystery . . . until you understand that no matter what symptoms are bothering you, the immediate causes are always the same: acidity.

So bottom line if you want to be healthy and strong both physically, mentally and spiritually you have to maintain the alkaline design of the body with the pH Miracle Alkalizing Diet and Lifestyle.

The Dangers of Some Common Digestive Supplements: Enzymes, Probiotics and HCL

You’ve probably run across recommendations for digestive enzymes and/or probiotics to improve the health of your digestive tract.

In fact, I used to recommend them myself. But through live and dried blood cell analysis my understanding has evolved, and now I want to emphasize the negative consequences of these supplements, and warn you to steer clear of them on your path to an alkaline lifestyle.

First let me quickly address HCL. It has never been one of my recommendations, but still this is advice that often pops up on the web, or in your health food store, or in health magazines or books. So let me just be clear: Never take supplements or drugs that contain HCL; it will compromise the alkaline pH of the digestive tract, leading to serious health challenges. Most all pharmaceutical drugs contain HCL and many nutritional supplements as well. HCL or Hydrochloric acid is a toxic acidic waste product of sodium bicarbonate production - right in the stomach. The sodium bicarbonate is used to alkalize the food or liquids you ingest and the HCL falls into the gastric pits of the small intestine to be taken up by the lymphatic system and then eliminated through perspiration or urination.

Enzymes and probiotics are a bit more complicated, because they may seemingly be beneficial in the short term. That’s because they do help break down undigested matter from meat and dairy, and so can provide temporary relief from constipation. Think of it this way: Yes, they help to break down hard to digest animal protein and meat. But guess what. YOU are meat! It will break you down too!

But they have many harmful effects over the long run. They are acidifying to the body, for one thing, and can damage healthy cells and tissues, including the delicate intestinal villi. They will eventually disrupt the alkaline process of creating stem cells in the small intestine and then red blood cells. This leads to blood disorders and then tissue disorders. When it becomes impossible to make healthy blood in the crypts of the small intestine, it is impossible to make the healthy body cells that make up healthy body organs. This is one of the main reasons Type I diabetics are all underweight. They have done severe damage to their intestinal villi and can no longer create enough stem cells to make red blood cells and therefore body cells are broken down to make needed and life saving red blood cells. This process of transforming body cells into red blood cells increases the acids in the blood in the form of sugar or glucose and the reason why a Type I diabetic goes to bed with normal blood sugar levels and then wakes up with high blood sugar levels. This phenomenon is referred to by medical savants as the “Dawn Phenomenon” and has everything to do with the unhealthy alkaline state of the small intestine. That is why I have said that the symptoms of diabetes begins in the small intestine, not the pancreas.

Probiotics are transformations of what used to be healthy cells. There is no such thing as “friendly” or “healthy” bacteria. The presence of bacteria is evidence of an acidic environment. Ideally, the small and large intestines will be clean and free of all microforms (Bacteria, Yeast, Mold). You don’t want to be adding any in there!

The word “enzyme” means “ferment” when you trace it back to its Greek roots. So, it’s broadcasting the fact that you should have nothing to do with adding more into your body. Enzymes are acids, the waste products of cellular breakdown. The enzymes in raw foods are released when you chew them -- you are breaking their cellular membranes with your teeth -- which is why alkalizing must start in the mouth. Luckily, the enzymes in the food you eat actually turns on the alkalizing system, triggering the release of sodium bicarbonate in the mouth, stomach and intestines. The real benefit to you of raw foods is their electrical energy, not their enzymes or acidic waste products.

Enzymes can help break down meat and dairy which rarely completely break down on their own, but a far better choice is to eliminate all animal protein from the diet. In cases of extreme bowel constipation, enzymes may be used, but only for a very short period of time. You’d be a lot better off, though, using mineral salts such as magnesium carbonate or magnesium oxide to break up undigested proteins in the small intestine.

You could also drink whole leaf cold-pressed aloe vera juice to help break up undigested food in the bowel without any negative impact on healthy tissue without damaging the delicate intestinal villi.

Best of all is to alkalize your body with electron-rich alkaline food and drink, avoiding the problem all together!

The First Shoe Has Dropped on Dietary Supplements

We predicted late last year before, during and after the election that 2009 would begin a time of change and challenge for dietary supplements. It looks like the first shoe has dropped: The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) presented a report to Congress last week, titled Dietary Supplements: FDA Should Take Further Action to Improve Oversight and Consumer Understanding.

A link to the full 70+ page report appears at the end of this article. Here are a few highlights:

1. The Players

The GAO is known as "the investigative arm of Congress." It's self-described mission is to improve the performance and ensure the accountability of the federal government. Typically, its work is performed at the direction of Congressional Committees. Its work "leads to laws and acts that improve government operations."

With regard to this particular report, the GAO's work was done at the request of Congressional Representatives Henry Waxman, John Dingell and Bart Stupak, and Senator Richard Durbin. Rep. Stupak has been one of the FDA's most vocal critics, as we reported some weeks ago. As we have also reported in the past, Reps. Waxman and Dingell, and Sen. Durbin have been skeptics - if not outright critics - of DSHEA and the dietary supplement industry for years.

2. The Issues

The GAO organized its comments according to four themes:

• The FDA has insufficient information from the industry about dietary supplements and manufacturing operations to be effective.

• The FDA has applied insufficient resources to properly oversee dietary supplements.

• The FDA has insufficient authority to remove products from the market.

• The FDA needs to do more to educate the public about dietary supplements.

3. GAO Comments of Concern

Within the GAO Report, we find these comments:

"According to several experts we spoke with, [the FDA's] regulatory approach [to supplements under DSHEA] has fallen short in protecting U.S. consumers in the past."

Among other things about this statement, we would like to know who these purported experts are, and the methods they used to arrive at their conclusion. We would also like clarification: is it the FDA or the law itself that has failed the public?

"[Even though reported adverse events average about 500 per year], the FDA recently estimated that the actual number of total adverse events . . . related to dietary supplements per year is over 50,000 . . ."

We would very much like to know how the FDA arrived at this estimate, including how the FDA evaluates whether an adverse event was actually caused by supplements as opposed to other potential causes. We also point out that the average adverse events reported for pharmaceuticals each year for the past 5 years is over 300,000.

4. GAO Recommendations

The GAO made four recommendations

• Dietary supplement companies should be required to identify themselves as a dietary supplement company as part of the existing registration requirements, and they should be required to update this information annually; they should be required to provide a list of the products they sell and a copy of the labels, updated annually; and they should be required to report all adverse events related to dietary supplements, not just major events.

• The FDA should issue guidance to clarify when an ingredient is considered a new dietary ingredient, the evidence needed to document the safety of new dietary ingredients, and appropriate methods for establishing ingredient identity.

• The FDA should provide guidance to industry to clarify when products should be marketed as either dietary supplements or conventional foods formulated with added dietary ingredients.

• The FDA should work better to educate consumers about the safety, efficacy, and labeling of dietary supplements.

Note that the GAO made no specific recommendations about changing outright the regulation of dietary supplements under DSHEA. But you can bet this report isn't the last shoe to land.

Fruit May Be Hazardous To Your Health

As a follow-up to recent research reports indicating that there is NO safe level of alcohol consumption when it comes to a cancerous condition. I think you can extrapolate from the following video that ALL sweet fruit ferments in the alimentary canal producing more or less acetylaldehyde (a nuero-toxin) and alcohol depending on the sugar content of the fruit. All high carbohydrate foods ferment in the digestive process, especially sweet fruits... producing acetylaldeyde and alcohol or excess acid.... directly causing over acidity, which in turn, causes all cancerous conditions (and other maladies). Acetylaldehyde and alcohol denatures protein and produces a whole host of dis-ease states, not the least of which is contributing to all cancerous conditions.

Please look at the following video. It's humorous, and as a wonderful side-benefit, it also teaches dramatically that sweet fruits produce acetylaldehyde and alcohol in the digestion process, and acetylaldehyde and alcohol can cause dis-ease, including dementia, alzhiemers, Parkinson's, brain, breast and bowel cancer, just to name a few.

Fruit may have nutritional benefits, BUT those benefits can come at an unacceptably high cost, when the fruit we consume have high acidic sugar and/or acidic carbohydrate contents. Sugar is an acid and acid can kill - and it does!

Cancer is Acid and Acid is Cancer

It seems that both red and white wine are "equal acidic offenders" when it comes to increasing the risk of breast cancer, according to a study published today.

"We were interested in teasing out red wine's effects on breast cancer risk. There is reason to suspect that red wine might have beneficial effects based on previous studies of heart disease and prostate cancer," Dr. Polly Newcomb, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, noted in a hospital statement.

"The general evidence is that alcohol consumption overall increases breast cancer risk, but the other studies made us wonder whether red wine might in fact have some positive value," she explained.

However, in their analysis, Newcomb's team found no difference between red or white wine in relation to breast cancer risk. "Neither appears to have any benefits," she said.

Among a large group of women with and without breast cancer, Newcomb and colleagues found that women who drank 14 or more acidic alcoholic drinks per week -- regardless of whether they drank red or white wine, liquor or beer -- faced a 24 percent increase in breast cancer compared with non-drinkers.

"If a woman drinks," Newcomb told Reuters Health, "she should do so in moderation -- no more than one drink per day. And if a woman chooses red wine, she should do so because she favors the taste, not because it may reduce her risk of breast cancer."

The findings are based on 6,327 women with breast cancer and 7,558 women matched for age who provided information about their drinking habits and other risk factors for breast cancer. The women, who were between 20 and 69 years old, were from Wisconsin, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The frequency of alcohol consumption was similar in both groups, and equal proportions of women in both groups reported consuming red wine and white wine.

According to Dr. Robert O. Young, Director of Research at the pH Miracle Living Center, "alcohol is a toxic acid that can be stored in the fatty tissues even the breast tissue causing both women and men an acidic condition known as breast cancer. Global and Body Warming Is Acid Warming

The acidification of blood plasma can lead to
degeneration of the red and white blood cells,
internal blood clotting and chaining of the red blood
cells. This condition of the blood leads to light headedness,
cold hands, cold feet, forgetfulness, muddle thinking or
brain fog, stroke, heart attack, tumor formation and
internal bleeding, just to name a few

I have been studying the acid/alkaline conditions of the
blood for over twenty-five years and have determined
that all sickness and dis-ease or body warming is caused
by the over-acidification of the blood and tissues.

Scientists have been studying the acid/alkaline
conditions at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea.

Natural carbon dioxide vents on the sea floor are
showing scientists how carbon emissions will affect
marine life.

Dissolved CO2 makes water more acidic, and around
the vents, researchers saw a fall in species numbers,
and snails with their shells disintegrating because of
the increase of acid C02.

Writing in the journal Nature, the UK scientists
suggest these impacts are likely to be seen across
the world as CO2 levels rise in the atmosphere.

Some of the extra CO2 emitted enters the oceans,
acidifying waters globally.

The only way of reducing the impact of ocean
acidification is the urgent reduction in CO2

"These same principals of acidification of the
ocean also apply to the acidification of our
body and the causative reason for the increase
in cancer, heart disease, diabetes and all other
degenerative diseases," states Dr. Robert O. Young,
a research scientist at the pH Miracle Living Center.

"Studies have shown that the seas have become more
acidic since the industrial revolution," states
Carol Turley. of the Plymouth Marine Laboratory.

Research leader Jason Hall-Spencer from the University
of Plymouth said that atmospheric CO2 concentrations
were now so high that even a sharp fall in emissions
would not prevent some further acidification of the

"It's clear that marine food webs as we know them are
going to alter, and biodiversity will decrease," he
told BBC News.

"Those impacts are inevitable because acidification is
inevitable - we've started it, and we can't stop it."

Corals construct their external skeletons by extracting
dissolved calcium carbonate from seawater and using it
to form two minerals, calcite and aragonite. Molluscs
use the same process to make their shells.

As water becomes more acidic, the concentration of
calcium carbonate falls. Eventually there is so
little that shells or skeletons cannot form.

The oceans are thought to have absorbed about half
of the extra CO2 put into the atmosphere in the
industrial age. This has lowered its pH by 0.1
pH is the measure of acidity and alkalinity.

The vast majority of liquids lie between pH 0
(highly acidic) and pH 14 (highly alkaline); 7
is the midpoint of the pH scale. Seawater is
mildly alkaline with a "natural" pH of about

The IPCC forecasts that ocean pH will fall by
"between 0.14 and 0.35 units over the 21st Century,
adding to the present decrease of 0.1 units since
pre-industrial times."

Around the vents which Dr Hall-Spencer's team
investigated, in the Mediterranean Sea near the
Italian coast, CO2 bubbling into the water forms
a sort of natural laboratory for studying the
impacts of acidified water on marine life.

Globally, the seas now have an average pH of about
8.1 - down about 0.2 since the dawn of the
industrial age.

Around the vents, it fell as low as 7.4 in some places.
But even at 7.8 to 7.9, the number of species present
was 30% down compared with neighboring areas.

Coral was absent, and species of algae that use
calcium carbonate were displaced in favour of
species that do not use it.

Snails were seen with their shells dissolving.
There were no snails at all in zones with a
pH of 7.4.

Meanwhile, sea grasses thrived, perhaps because
they benefit from the extra carbon in the water.

These observations confirm that some of the
processes seen in laboratory experiments and
some of the predictions made by computer models
of ocean ecosystems do also happen in the real world.

"I can't count the number of times that scientific
talks end with 'responses have not yet been
documented in the field'," said Elliott Norse,
president of the Marine Conservation Biology
Institute (MCBI).

"This paper puts that to rest for several
ecologically important marine groups."

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
suggests that without measures to restrain carbon
dioxide emissions, ocean pH is likely to fall to about
7.8 by 2100.

This suggests that some of the impacts seen
around the Mediterranean vents might be widespread.

"I think we will see the same pattern in other parts
of the world, because we're talking about keystone
species such as mussels and limpets and barnacles
being lost as pH drops," said Dr Hall-Spencer.

The IPCC suggests that some areas, notably the
Southern Ocean, might feel the impacts at lower
concentrations of CO2.

Last month, scientists reported that water with
CO2 levels high enough to be "corrosive" to marine
life was rising up off the western US coast.

Bottom water naturally contains more CO2 than at
shallower depths. This scientific team argues
that human emissions have pushed these levels
even higher, contributing to pH values as low 7.5
in waters heavily used by US fishermen.

"If [pH 7.8] is a universal 'tipping point', then
it indicates that sections of the western coast
waters off North America may have passed this
threshold during periods when this upwelling of
waters high in CO2 occurs," commented Carol Turley
from Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), who was not
involved in the Mediterranean Sea study (PML is
not affiliated with Plymouth University).

Organisms such as coral are also damaged by rising
temperatures, and studies are ongoing into the
combined effect of a warming and acidifying ocean.

Seagrasses were among the few beneficiaries of
more acid waters. There is much to learn. And
during the coming week, scientists will announce
the inauguration of the European Project on Ocean
Acidification (Epoca), a four-year, 16m euro (£12.5m)
initiative aiming to find some answers.

Studying the impacts may prove easier than doing
anything about them.

"The reason that the oceans are becoming more acidic
is because of the CO2 emissions that we are producing
from burning fossil fuels," observed Dr Turley.

"Add CO2 to seawater and you get carbonic acid;
it's simple chemistry, and therefore certain.

"This means that the only way of reducing the future
impact of ocean acidification is the urgent,
substantial reduction in CO2 emissions."

According to Dr. Young, "ocean acidification is
the macro view of our oceans becoming sick and tired
and the primary causative factor in global warming.
The death and extinction of marine life is the result
of this acidification which can be prevented with
alkalizing measures."

"Body acidification is the micro view of our
internal oceans becoming sick and tired and the
primary causative factor in body warming or
all sickness and dis-ease. The death and extinction
of the human race will be a result of an over-
acidification of the blood and tissues due to an
inverted way of living, eating and thinking. This
is what scientist have determined happened to the
extinction of the Mayan Race. We can prevent all
sickness and dis-ease (cancer, heart dis-ease,
diabetes, etc.) and the potential extinction of
the human race by learning how to maintain the
alkaline design of our body. These life changing
and life saving principals are taught in our

As you might know when the body becomes acidic there
is a thinning of the bones to help maintain the alkalinity
of the blood at 7.375. The same thing is happening to
our oceans. They are becoming more acidic with an
increasing carbon dioxide burden. The result is the shells
of microscopic animals in the ocean are becoming thinner
thanks to the oceans's adsorption and absorption of the
excess carbon dioxide. The shells of these creatures are
about one-third lighter.

This is causing the normal ocean pH to drop from 8.3 to an
alarming 8.1. If this trend of a declining pH continues all
marine life will perish in less then twenty-five years.

The same thing is happening to the human body, I call this
body warming and is caused by the body adsorbing and absorbing
metabolic and dietary acids not properly eliminated through
urination, perspiration, defecation and respiration. This is
also causing a thinning of our shells or the skeletal system.
This is the cause of osteopenia and ostoeporosis.

As carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels has
accumulated in the atmosphere, some of it has been absorbed
by the ocean. As the gas dissolves in the water, it forms a
weak acid (the same kind that's in (carbonated soft drinks),
causing the ocean and the human body itself to become
gradually more acidic.

As ocean water or body water becomes more acidic, it also
lowers the amount of calcium carbonate available to
aquatic animals or body cells that use the mineral to build
shells or skeletons, such as corals or human bones.

These organisms can be important links in the marine food chain.

Scientists have predicted that the increase in ocean acidification
could significantly reduce the ability of these creatures to
build their casings, potentially devastating them and causing
rippling effects through the ecosystem.

But "until now the potential impact on ocean chemistry and marine
life has been based on projections and models" and laboratory
experiments, said leader of the new study, Will Howard of the
Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre
in Australia.

With funding from the Australian Government Department of Climate
Change, Howard and his colleagues collected microscopic marine
animals - called planktonic foraminifera, or forams - from the
South Tasman Rise region of the Southern Ocean. They compared
the weights of the shells of these modern forams to those
trapped in ocean sediments before the industrial revolution
and the build-up of carbon dioxide.

They found that the modern shell weights were 30 to 35 percent
lower than those of the older forams.

The researchers also found a link between higher atmospheric
carbon dioxide levels and lower shell weights in a 50,000-year-long
record from a marine sediment core (a long column drilled out
from the ocean floor that shows layers of sediments as they were
laid down over time).

"Today's results publish the first evidence from nature, rather
than a laboratory, that the two are linked," Howard said.
The findings are detailed in the March 8 issue of the Journal
Nature Geoscience.

If the results are applicable to the rest of the ocean, they
could lead to large ecosystem shifts.

"The potential knock-on effects pose significant implications for
the oceanic food chain and the findings are a worrying signal of
what we can expect to see elsewhere in the future," Howard said.
"The Southern Ocean is giving us a strong indication of an
acidification process that will spread throughout the global ocean."

As far as the acidification of the human race it is an epidemic!
This is why we will continue to see the increase in all
degenerative conditions such as cancer, diabetes, heart dis-ease,
MS, ALS, birth defects, dementia, etc.

Prevention is the cure for global warming and for body warming.
As eloquently stated by Ghandi, "You must be the change

Out of 37 smokers who started the program over 1 year ago 34 are still not smoking!! That's a massive 92% Success Rate.

You may say that 37 may not represent the other 3000 patients that I have seen in the last 20 years but one thing for sure that those who stayed off the cigarettes in this group reported that pHlavour Salt was the single most important tool that curbed the craving to smoke.

The pH Miracle Lifestyle and Diet - Natural Holistic Health Care

It is time to embrace Natural Holistic Health Care as a primary resource in our Health Care System. Natural Holistic Health Care needs to stand on solid and even ground with the current Allopathic Practices in our Health Care System. Natural Holistic Health Care needs to be overseen by individuals who revere and have studied this approach to well-being. I am certain that there are many intelligent, educated and maybe even self-educated individuals who are more than qualified to create a responsible team and a set of standards.

At the age of 32, the year was 1985, I became devastatingly ill. Up until this point I had always followed the allopathic approach for health care and had no exposure to any alternative approaches. For the first week, I stayed home from my high tech position, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I rested and slept experiencing extreme enervation, sleeping 18 hours a day and barely able to function during my awake time accompanied by numerous symptoms. I kept thinking, tomorrow I will go back to work or next Monday. If I could just get up and stay awake. I was told by my employer that by the end of the week I needed to have a doctor's note stating, my condition would keep me from working. All my vital signs and lab tests appeared medically normal! I had many non-specific complaints. None of which did my medical doctor document, he said, "when you feel better, the symptoms will go away"! It didn't make sense then and it still does not make sense today, what was causing all my symptoms was indeed primary. He implied that a condition has been documented that fits my profile with a non-specific name "chronic malaise". There is 'nothing' that can be done to help you; the longest documented case is now at 12 years!! The twelve years sort of rang in my head as a very unreal number, what was he saying; people have had this condition for twelve years and the medical community knows nothing!!

As I struggled to sit up long enough to make a few phone calls, I described my condition to the voice on the other end of the phone; most would not even make an appointment to see me. I asked my doctor for a referral and was able to make two appointments, in the Boston area with two of the top medical facilities in the country and the world; one in the hematology department, and the other in the infectious disease department. I wasn't going to die and there was nothing that could be done!

At that point, hearing that I was not going to die wasn't necessarily good news. The amount of pain and constant discomfort was mostly unbearable with no days off, no vacations and no one to turn to for help.

It would be a year and a half before I found a doctor with a personal interest in a holistic approach to healing balanced with his medical training. It was then that I received a specific diagnosis and a willingness to systematically look at my symptoms. Someone who actually listened to me assuming that I just might know what I was talking about; after all I do live inside my own body to which my brain is attached. I began my journey into the alternative world of healing. I had found a medical doctor who encouraged and helped empower me to keep searching and trying alternative options. I quickly learned that I could not discuss my holistic choice with family or acquaintances without someone raising the danger or quack flag. What about the 'lets be intelligent' flag and research some options?

I explored and embraced many alternative therapies. Each played a role in relieving some level of discomfort even if for a short while. Then in 2002 and again in 2004, I was introduced to the work of Robert O. Young, Ph.D., D.Sc., N.D. of The pH Miracle Center in Valley Center, California. In March of 2005, I was blessed to hear Dr. Young speak twice here in the Boston area while on a book tour. Every cell in my body knew this was the truth. I decided that if Dr. Young's research and conclusions were correct, then I should be able to follow his alkaline eating program and notice improvement, hopefully enough improvement to get strong enough to travel to California and study with him. I wasn't going to put all my focus, energy and money into something unless it was based on good science; it had to make sense, I had way too many symptoms.

In April 2006, I traveled to Dr. Young's ranch to learn how to get well. I came home with enough information to make this my way of life. I am restoring my own health and well-being without drugs, when the medical community at large said "There is no Cure"! The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia states; "There is no known cause and no known cure" for Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome.

I can state with confidence, "there is a known cause worth giving attention to and there is a path worth pursuing that is revealing the restoration of health. I was considering using the word "cure" but I realize that the medical cure does not necessarily equate to restoration of health. Read Sick and Tired by Robert O. Young, Ph.D., D.Sc., N.D. specifically Chapter 4: The Many Symptoms of Yeast/Fungus Infestation. This chapter describes many of my symptoms and the reasons for them which the medical community stated as being non-specific and did not know why.

When I review my lab tests from 20+ years ago and apply Dr. Young's teaching, it is easy to see that I was very ill and why! Had my blood work been more extensive, much more would be revealed.

Dr. Young openly and with integrity states that his work stands on the shoulders of scientists of the past who have revealed scientific documentation towards the same conclusions, many of these individuals have been pushed into obscurity. They are only guilty for being truth seekers. For their brilliant undying dedication of holding their focus on finding the truth, of spending hours and hours of their time observing, waiting and watching for consistent results. Of creatively figuring out ways to discover the truth; hours of documenting what was observed; and in some cases witnessing the intentional destruction of their life long endeavors by the authorities.

There is way too much suffering in this world that just isn't necessary. It is time to allow true freedom of choice beyond the walls of the traditional medical structure; or expand the walls of the allopathic thinking to embrace other research approaches.
